Memorial

The “Denkmal für die ermordeten Juden Europas” (Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe), also known just as the Holocaust Memorial, is a popular spot for tourists and nonsense. The vast array of concrete blocks is designed to produce an uneasy, confusing atmosphere, and the whole sculpture aims to represent a supposedly ordered system that has lost touch with human reason.

LANDMARKS

From the Reichstag to the Brandeburger Tor, this is Berlin as we know it: a modern european capital. Yet, it is also a city of marvelously coexisting contradictions, the clash of two universes, a memento of the levels of absurdity the human race can reach.

ART ATTACK

If you are into modern and contemporary art, the Hamburger Bahnhof and the Bauhaus Archiv are obligatory stop-overs. Furthermore, artsy hipsters simply love Berlin, so you shouldn't have trouble finding little masterpieces scattered all over the streets.

Görlitzer Park

Strange things happen here, this place is like a giant, open-air theatre. Just sit down for a moment and have a couple of weißbiers, admission is free, no ticket needed.

BLESSED

When everything is in its right place, at the right time: like listening to Jon Hopkin's Abandon Window at Treptower Park at dusk, after a sudden downpour, or contemplating the hazy pattern drawn by the light filtering through the messy windows in Hardwax's staircase, feeling a deep sense of déjà vu.
